About Cascade du Saut du Doubs
Where the river Doubs marks the border between France and Switzerland, it gathers behind natural barriers into the mirror-like Lac de Chaillexon and then hurls itself 27 metres over a rock lip in the dramatic Saut du Doubs. One of the most visited natural sites of the Jura, the falls are reached by a woodland walk or, more memorably, by a boat cruise up the still, cliff-lined lake from Villers-le-Lac. In spring the flow is a thundering torrent; in the fierce winters of the high Jura the cascade can freeze into spectacular sheets and columns of ice. Straddling two countries and framed by limestone crags and forest, the Saut du Doubs is a grand watery finale to the river's mountain journey.
