About Cascade du Saut du Loup
Set deep in the wild Gorges du Loup behind the Côte d'Azur, the Cascade du Saut du Loup is a beautiful waterfall where the river Loup tumbles into a series of great potholes it has drilled into the rock over thousands of years. The most spectacular of these giant cauldrons, the Marmite de Géant, is a near-perfect cylinder gouged by the swirling water, and in spring the falls thunder with snowmelt through a lush hanging garden of ferns and moss. Reached from a scenic road that winds through the gorge above the perched village of Gourdon, the site offers a cool, green and refreshing stop amid dramatic limestone scenery. Wild, verdant and geologically fascinating, the Saut du Loup is one of the loveliest natural corners of the hinterland behind Nice.
