About Côte Vermeille

Where the Pyrenees tumble into the Mediterranean at the Spanish border, the Côte Vermeille glows with the warm red rock and vine-clad hills that give it its name — the "Vermilion Coast". Its jewel is Collioure, a dazzling little port of pastel houses, a bell-tower rising from the water and a royal castle, whose extraordinary light drew Matisse and Derain and helped give birth to Fauvism. Along the rugged shore, terraced vineyards producing Banyuls and Collioure wines drop almost to rocky coves of clear water, and a coastal path winds between the small ports of Port-Vendres, Banyuls and Cerbère. Sun-soaked, colourful and steeped in art and wine, the Côte Vermeille is a radiant meeting of mountain, sea and Mediterranean light.
