About Forêt d'Orient

Giving its name to a great regional nature park in the plains of Champagne, the Forêt d'Orient is a vast, damp oakwood laced with streams and bordered by a chain of huge lakes built to regulate the Seine. Once a stronghold of the Knights Templar, whose name it still carries, it is now a haven of biodiversity, its trees and reed-fringed pools sheltering ospreys, cranes, deer and beavers. Walkers, cyclists and riders explore its shaded paths and lakeside trails, while birdwatchers gather at the reserves along the water. Combining ancient forest, open water and rich wildlife within easy reach of Troyes and the Champagne vineyards, the Forêt d'Orient is one of the loveliest green retreats in eastern France.
