About Forêt de Bonifatu

In the mountains behind Calvi in northern Corsica, the Forêt de Bonifatu is a magnificent forest of Corsican pine and holm oak clinging to the granite slopes at the mouth of the wild Cirque de Bonifato. Clear mountain torrents tumble through the trees into inviting rock pools, and the forest is the great western gateway to the celebrated GR20 and the high peaks of the Monte Cinto massif. Marked trails climb from the forest house through fragrant pines to viewpoints, refuges and hidden bathing spots, while eagles and the rare Corsican nuthatch haunt the canopy. Cool, scented and dramatically framed by soaring red-grey cliffs, Bonifatu offers the wild mountain heart of Corsica within easy reach of the Balagne coast.
