About Forêt de Grésigne

Rising as a great forested dome above the vineyards and bastides of the Tarn, the Forêt de Grésigne is one of the largest oak forests in south-west France, cloaking a rounded massif of red sandstone near the perched village of Penne. Once fiercely protected for the royal navy and ringed by an old boundary wall, it is now a haven of rare beetles, orchids and woodland wildlife, prized by naturalists. Quiet forest roads and marked trails wind through the trees to viewpoints over the Aveyron gorges and the surrounding bastide country. Wild, biodiverse and refreshingly cool in the southern heat, the Grésigne is a little-known green treasure in the sunlit borderlands between the Tarn and the Quercy.
