About Forêt de Saoû
One of the most extraordinary natural sites in the Drôme, the Forêt de Saoû fills the hollow of a perched syncline — a boat-shaped fold of rock some 13 kilometres long, its wooded valley completely enclosed by a rampart of pale limestone cliffs. Entered through a natural rocky gateway where a river carves out of the massif, it opens into a secret green world of woods, meadows and picnic spots beneath the towering ridge, crowned at its eastern end by the jagged peaks of the Trois Becs. Walkers climb to the crests for immense views over Provence and the Alps, or wander the gentle valley floor. Geologically unique, protected and utterly enchanting, the Forêt de Saoû is a hidden natural amphitheatre unlike anywhere else in France.
