About Forêt de Tronçais

In the heart of the Bourbonnais in the Allier, the Forêt de Tronçais is one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe, famous for the towering, straight-grained trees that have grown here for centuries. Replanted and carefully managed from the time of Colbert in the 1600s to supply timber for the royal navy, its finest oaks are now prized above all others for making the barrels that age great wines and cognacs. Walkers and cyclists follow shaded rides between cathedral-like stands of trees, some over 300 years old and honoured with their own names, past tranquil ponds alive with birds. Majestic, historic and beautifully kept, Tronçais is a living monument to the French art of the forest.
