About Gorges de l'Aveyron

Between the bastide town of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val and the pretty village of Bruniquel, the river Aveyron carves a series of green, cliff-lined gorges through the limestone of the Quercy borders. Less famous and gentler than the great Tarn canyons, they are all the more peaceful for it: honey-coloured crags rise above woodland and riverside meadows, dotted with medieval villages, troglodyte dwellings and clifftop castles. Canoeing down the clear river, walking the shaded paths, rock-climbing on the sunlit walls and exploring the market town of Saint-Antonin are the classic pleasures here. Framed by oak forest and warm southern light, the Gorges de l'Aveyron offer an unhurried, human-scale beauty in one of the loveliest corners of the Tarn-et-Garonne.
