About Gorges de Langouette
At Les Planches-en-Montagne in the Jura, the Gorges de la Langouette are a spectacular narrow gorge where the river Saine has sawn a deep, tight cleft — barely a few metres wide but some twenty metres deep — through the limestone. A footbridge spans the chasm, and marked paths run along its rim, giving dizzying views straight down into the churning green water far below, framed by mossy rock walls and overhanging forest. Cool, shadowy and dramatic, the gorge is an easy and rewarding walk, especially refreshing on a hot summer's day, and can be combined with visits to the nearby waterfalls and reculées of the Jura plateau. Compact, vertiginous and beautifully wild, the Gorges de la Langouette are a fine natural curiosity of the Jura high country.
