About Grand Veymont
At 2,341 metres the Grand Veymont is the highest point of the Vercors massif, a long limestone rampart whose grassy eastern slopes look across to the improbable tower of the Mont Aiguille. Rising within the Vercors highlands nature reserve, its summit is a rewarding day's walk from the plateau, crossing high pastures where a reintroduced herd of ibex now thrives alongside marmots and chamois. From the top a vast panorama unfolds — the Alps to the east, the Diois and Provence to the south, the plateaus of the Vercors rolling away to the west. Wild, broad and blessedly quiet, the Grand Veymont is the great walkers' summit of the Vercors and a stronghold of its returning wildlife.
