About Grande Cascade du Hérisson
The showpiece of the celebrated Cascades du Hérisson, the Grande Cascade — also called the Éventail, or "fan" — is a broad, tiered curtain of white water dropping some 60 metres through the forested gorges of the Jura. It is the grandest of a whole staircase of falls that the river Hérisson makes as it drops from the plateau of the Jura lakes, and a well-made trail links them all in one of the most popular nature walks in the region. Beech woods, mossy cliffs and turquoise pools frame the path, which runs from Ilay past cascade after cascade. Spectacular after rain or snowmelt and cool even in high summer, the Hérisson falls are a green, watery masterpiece of the Franche-Comté.
