About Grotte de la Cocalière
On the border of the Gard and the Ardèche, the Grotte de la Cocalière is regarded as one of the most beautiful show-caves in France, celebrated for the exceptional richness and variety of its formations. Its long, near-level gallery leads past thousands of delicate white concretions — slender stalactites, translucent discs, fragile eccentrics defying gravity, and shimmering pools held behind rimstone dams — all superbly lit along an easy, comfortable circuit. The visit ends with a memorable touch: a little train carries visitors back to the surface through the hillside. Formed over millions of years and remarkable for the sheer density of its crystalline decoration, the cave is a feast for the eye. Dazzling, varied and easy to enjoy, the Grotte de la Cocalière is a jewel of the southern French underground on the edge of the Cévennes.
