About Grotte de Lacave
In the Lot valley near Rocamadour, the Grottes de Lacave offer one of the most atmospheric cave visits in the Quercy, reached in memorable style by a little electric train that carries visitors into the hillside, followed by a lift that climbs to the galleries deep within the cliff. Inside, a long circuit winds past twelve chambers hung with magnificent concretions and, most magically, reflected in still underground lakes and pools where the formations double in mirror-perfect stillness. In one darkened chamber, natural fluorescence makes the living calcite glow an eerie blue-white under ultraviolet light. Grand, richly decorated and full of theatrical touches, the Grottes de Lacave are one of the great show-caves of the Dordogne–Lot country and a perfect complement to nearby Rocamadour.
