About Grotte de Limousis
In the Montagne Noire near Carcassonne, the Grotte de Limousis is a fine show-cave celebrated for one of the most remarkable natural formations in France: an immense chandelier of pure white aragonite crystals, a glittering cluster nearly ten metres across, unique of its kind and unveiled as the dramatic finale of the visit. The cave's succession of chambers, inhabited since prehistory, leads past clear underground pools, elegant draperies and columns of white and amber calcite, all superbly lit. Warm and dry compared with many caves, it is comfortable to explore along an easy circuit. Combining classic cave beauty with its extraordinary crystalline centrepiece, the Grotte de Limousis is one of the underground marvels of the Aude and a perfect pairing with the nearby giant chasm of Cabrespine.
