About Grotte de Presque
Near Saint-Céré in the Lot, the Grottes de Presque are a small but exquisite show-cave famous above all for their extraordinary stalagmites — a procession of tall, slender columns rising like pale candles and organ-pipes, some remarkably fine and elegant, ranged along the gallery in a way found in few other caves. Discovered in 1825, this easily visited cavity leads through a series of chambers where these graceful formations, alongside delicate draperies and flows of white and amber calcite, are beautifully lit. Compact and comfortable to explore, it makes a lovely stop in the cave-rich Quercy, close to the châteaux and villages of the Dordogne valley. Elegant, intimate and geologically charming, the Grottes de Presque are a delightful underground discovery in one of the most beautiful corners of southern France.
