About Grotte des Moidons
Hidden in the heart of the Jura forest near Arbois, the Grotte des Moidons is one of the most beautifully decorated caves in the region, a compact but richly concretioned cavern shaped over hundreds of thousands of years by dripping, mineral-laden water. Its chambers glitter with a dense forest of stalactites and stalagmites, delicate draperies and columns, brought to life by a fine sound-and-light presentation that plays across the formations in the darkness. A guide leads visitors down into the cool depths, explaining the slow geology and the surrounding karst landscape of the Jura plateau above. Intimate, magical and easy to reach from the vineyards of Arbois, the Grotte des Moidons is a jewel of the Franc-Comtois underground and a refreshing discovery on a hot summer's day.
