About Grottes du Roc de Cazelle

In the heart of the Vézère valley near Les Eyzies — the "capital of prehistory" — the Roc de Cazelle is a remarkable cliff-side site where people lived in shelters carved from the rock for tens of thousands of years, from Ice Age hunters right up to the 20th century. Following a shaded path along the honeycombed cliff, visitors discover reconstructed prehistoric scenes, troglodyte dwellings, an astonishing rock-cut farmstead inhabited until 1966, and the tools and daily life of those who made these caves their home. Set among woods and gardens beneath golden Périgord cliffs, it brings the long human story of the valley vividly to life. Family-friendly, scenic and deeply evocative, the Roc de Cazelle is a wonderful window onto the troglodyte heritage of the prehistoric Périgord.
