About Île aux Moines
Nicknamed the "pearl of the Gulf", the Île aux Moines is the largest of the many islands scattered across the tranquil Golfe du Morbihan in southern Brittany. Blessed with a mild, almost southern microclimate, its sheltered lanes are lined with fig trees, mimosa and camellias, and its coastline alternates between little beaches, wooded points and views over the maze of islands and blue channels of the gulf. A prehistoric stone circle and dolmens recall its ancient past, while whitewashed captains' houses tell of its seafaring history. Reached by a short ferry from Port-Blanc and explored on foot or by bicycle, this gentle, flower-filled island is a favourite escape — a serene, sun-warmed corner of the Morbihan just minutes from the mainland.
