About Île de Port-Cros
Wildest and most mountainous of the Îles d'Or off Hyères, the Île de Port-Cros is a car-free jewel of wooded hills, sheltered coves and crystalline waters at the heart of France's pioneering marine national park. Dense Mediterranean forest of pine, oak and strawberry-tree cloaks its slopes, crossed by shaded paths that climb to old coastal forts and panoramic viewpoints over an impossibly blue sea. Its greatest treasure lies underwater: a marked snorkelling trail glides over seagrass meadows teeming with fish, in some of the best-preserved marine life in the Mediterranean. With no cars, no crowds and no development, reached only by boat, Port-Cros offers a rare, protected glimpse of the Riviera coast as it once was — pure, green and gloriously quiet.
