About La Roche d’Oetre
In the heart of the Suisse Normande, the Roche d'Oëtre is one of the most spectacular natural viewpoints in northern France — a rocky belvedere perched high above the deep, wooded gorge of the river Rouvre. From the edge of its cliff, an unfenced and vertiginous panorama plunges over a great forested amphitheatre of steep valley walls, an unexpectedly wild and mountainous scene in the gentle Norman countryside. Some see in the rock face below the profile of a human face gazing out over the gorge. Marked footpaths wind down into the ravine and along the ridges for walkers who want to explore further. Dramatic, verdant and refreshingly rugged, the Roche d'Oëtre is the wild jewel of the Suisse Normande and a favourite viewpoint of the Orne countryside.
