The Fango river runs down from the mountains through a landscape of maquis and holm oak to the sea, carving a series of natural pools and rock slides of astonishing clarity — turquoise basins between smooth pink-and-grey rocks, perfect for swimming on a hot Corsican day. Walkers follow ancient mule trails up the valley beneath towering summits, far from any crowd.
