About Lac d'Aiguebelette

Framed by wooded hills at the foot of the Épine mountain in Savoie, the Lac d'Aiguebelette is one of the largest natural lakes in France — and one of the warmest, its emerald-green water often reaching pleasant swimming temperatures in summer. To protect this fragile setting, motorboats are banned, leaving the lake to swimmers, rowers, paddleboarders and anglers gliding past its two small islands. A world-class rowing venue that hosted the 2015 World Championships, it is ringed by quiet beaches, reed beds and lakeside paths. The calm, mirror-like surface and the absence of engine noise give Aiguebelette a rare, restful atmosphere — a place to swim, picnic and watch the light change on the water rather than to chase thrills.
