About Lac d'Oô
Fed by a spectacular waterfall that tumbles some 270 metres down the mountainside, the Lac d'Oô is a jewel of the Luchon Pyrenees and one of the region's most rewarding short hikes. From the Granges d'Astau, a well-trodden path climbs for about an hour and a quarter through pasture and pine to reveal the lake suddenly, a broad sheet of green-blue water held by a discreet dam and crowned by the great cascade at its far end. In summer walkers pause at a lakeside refuge before pushing on to the wilder Lac d'Espingo above. Grazing horses, soaring peaks and the roar of the falls make Oô a firm favourite for families and mountain lovers alike.
