About Lac de Cazaux-Sanguinet
One of the largest natural freshwater lakes in France, the Lac de Cazaux-Sanguinet lies behind the dunes of the Landes and Gironde, its remarkably clear, gently shelving water bordered by white sand and endless maritime pine. The transparency of the shallows makes it a favourite for swimming, sailing, windsurfing and diving, while quiet reed-lined shores shelter herons and other waterbirds. Villages such as Sanguinet and Cazaux offer beaches, marinas and lakeside paths, and a canal links the lake to neighbouring Biscarrosse. With the Atlantic breakers only a short ride west through the forest, Cazaux-Sanguinet is a serene, sun-warmed alternative to the ocean — a place for slow days on limpid water under big Landes skies.
