About Lac de Matemale
High on the windswept Capcir plateau in the eastern Pyrenees, the Lac de Matemale is a forest-ringed reservoir sitting above 1,500 metres, framed by pine woods and the summits of the Carlit massif. In summer its cool, clear water draws swimmers to a supervised beach and sailors, windsurfers and paddlers to a lively watersports base; walkers and mountain-bikers follow the trails that circle the shore. When snow falls, the surrounding plateau becomes one of the region's favourite spots for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Uncrowded and bracingly fresh even at the height of summer, Matemale is a four-season mountain lake and a natural base for exploring the wild lakes and forests of the Capcir.
