About Lac de Vassivière
Spread across a granite plateau on the edge of the Limousin, the Lac de Vassivière is a large, indented reservoir famous for its central wooded island — home to an acclaimed contemporary art centre and open-air sculpture park reached by a footbridge. Around its long, winding shoreline lie beaches, marinas and campsites, with sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and swimming in summer and a network of cycling and walking trails through the surrounding forest and heath. The high, cool setting gives Vassivière a bracing, wide-open feel, and the mix of nature and art makes it unusual among French lakes: you can spend the morning on the water and the afternoon among monumental sculptures set in the trees.
