About Les Falaises d’Ault-Onival
Where the chalk cliffs of Normandy make their final appearance before the great flat beaches of Picardy, the Falaises d'Ault rise white and sheer above the Channel at the little resort of Ault-Onival. This is the northernmost end of the alabaster cliff line, a dramatic wall of chalk streaked with flint, crumbling steadily into the sea below where old blockhouses have tumbled onto the shingle. From the clifftop promenade and the belvederes of Ault, walkers enjoy sweeping views along the pale ramparts and out over the sea, while the tide reveals rock pools at their foot. Bracing, luminous and quietly dramatic, the cliffs of Ault mark the meeting of two coasts — the white cliffs of the south and the vast sandy bays of the north — and are a fine, unspoilt corner of the Picardy shore.
