About Les Falaises d’Etretat
The most famous cliffs in France, the Falaises d'Étretat rise in dazzling white walls of chalk above the Norman coast, sculpted by the sea into a trio of soaring natural arches and a lone needle of rock that have enchanted visitors for centuries. To the west, the great arch of the Porte d'Aval frames the Aiguille, a seventy-metre spire standing in the waves; beyond it looms the massive Manneporte; to the east, the Porte d'Amont is crowned by a chapel and clifftop gardens. Immortalised by Monet, Courbet and Boudin, and by the adventures of the gentleman-burglar Arsène Lupin, this coast draws walkers to its clifftop paths for ever-changing views over sea and stone. Sublime, luminous and endlessly painted, the cliffs of Étretat are one of the natural icons of France.
