About Les Saintes
A cluster of small volcanic islands off the south of Guadeloupe, Les Saintes are crowned by a bay so beautiful it is often ranked among the loveliest in the world. On the main island of Terre-de-Haut, a picture-postcard fishing village of red-roofed white cottages spills down to a turquoise harbour dotted with brightly painted boats, watched over by the hilltop Fort Napoléon and its gardens. Descendants of Breton and Norman sailors still fish these waters, and their traditional salako sun-hats are a local emblem. Golden coves, clear snorkelling waters and steep green hills reward those who explore on foot or by scooter. Reached by ferry from Guadeloupe, sun-washed and intimate, Les Saintes are a jewel of the French Caribbean.
