About Mont Blanc

Rising above 4,800 metres over the resort town of Chamonix, Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and in Western Europe — a colossal dome of ice and granite that has been the birthplace of modern mountaineering since its first ascent in 1786. You do not need to be a climber to feel its scale: the Aiguille du Midi cable car sweeps visitors to a rock spire at 3,842 metres for a heart-stopping panorama of glaciers and summits, while the mountain railway climbs to the Mer de Glace, France's largest glacier. Trails, mountain huts and viewpoints ring the massif. Whether admired from a café terrace or approached rope in hand, Mont Blanc is the undisputed giant of the French Alps.
