About Monte Cinto
The roof of Corsica, Monte Cinto rises to 2,706 metres at the heart of the island's rugged mountainous spine, a jagged crown of red and grey rock, snow-streaked well into summer. It is the high point of the legendary GR20, one of Europe's toughest long-distance trails, and its bare, boulder-strewn upper slopes offer a stark contrast to the maquis and beaches of the coast far below. From the summit, reached on a demanding scramble from the Niolo valley near Lozzi, the view spans the whole island from sea to sea, and on the clearest mornings the mountains of the Alps and even Italy float on the horizon. Wild, dry and dramatic, Monte Cinto is Corsica at its most elemental.
