About Parc national de Port-Cros

Off the coast of Hyères, the Parc national de Port-Cros protects the loveliest of the Îles d'Or — a car-free island of wooded hills, hidden coves and fragrant Mediterranean scrub, ringed by exceptionally clear and protected waters. Created in 1963, it was the first marine national park in Europe, and beneath its surface lies its greatest treasure: an underwater snorkelling trail where visitors glide over meadows of seagrass alive with fish, among some of the richest marine life in the region. On land, shaded paths lead through pine and strawberry-tree to old forts, panoramic viewpoints and quiet beaches. Wild, unspoiled and reached only by boat, Port-Cros is a jewel of Mediterranean nature, both above and below the waves.
