About Parc national des Calanques

On the very edge of Marseille, the Parc national des Calanques protects one of the most spectacular coastlines in the Mediterranean — a series of narrow, fjord-like inlets where white limestone cliffs plunge into water of dazzling turquoise. Created in 2012 as the first peri-urban national park in Europe, it stretches from the great city to the port of Cassis, embracing sheer sea-cliffs, hidden coves reached only on foot or by boat, and a rich land and marine wildlife. Walkers follow rugged trails through pine and scented scrub to viewpoints and secret beaches; kayakers and swimmers explore the coves from the sea. Wild, bright and astonishingly close to a major city, the Calanques are one of the natural marvels of Provence.
