About Parc national des Cévennes

Rising over the southern Massif Central, the Parc national des Cévennes protects a wild, human-shaped landscape of granite domes, limestone causses and deep chestnut valleys, crowned by the high moorlands of Mont Lozère and Mont Aigoual. Uniquely among French national parks, people still live and farm within it, and its terraced hillsides, drystone hamlets and transhumant flocks earned it, together with the Causses, a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list of Mediterranean agro-pastoral landscapes. Free of light pollution, it is also an International Dark Sky Reserve, its night skies ablaze with stars. Robert Louis Stevenson crossed it with his donkey; today walkers follow his trail through one of the wildest and most authentic corners of southern France.
