About Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne

The largest regional nature park in mainland France, the Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne unfurls across the greatest concentration of volcanoes in the country — from the elegant cones of the UNESCO-listed Chaîne des Puys, crowned by the Puy de Dôme, to the eroded giants of the Monts Dore and the vast ancient volcano of the Cantal. Between the summits lie high pastures grazed by Salers cattle, crater lakes, waterfalls and drystone shepherds' huts, and the region's celebrated cheeses. Walkers, cyclists and paragliders take to the rounded peaks, while spa towns and medieval villages nestle in the valleys. Grand, green and unmistakably volcanic, this is a landscape shaped by fire and now clothed in some of the wildest scenery in France.
