About Parc naturel régional du Morvan

A great island of granite hills and dense forest rising from the plains of Burgundy, the Parc naturel régional du Morvan is a wild, water-rich upland of woods, rivers and reservoirs — including the much-loved Lac des Settons. Long a land of woodcutters, cattle-farmers and wet-nurses who once travelled to Paris, it keeps a strong rural identity, its forests supplying timber and its meadows the famous Charolais cattle. At Bibracte on Mont Beuvray lie the remains of a great Celtic hill-town where Vercingetorix was proclaimed leader of the Gauls. Walkers, cyclists and paddlers explore its lakes, waterfalls and endless green trails. Deep, forested and gently melancholy, the Morvan is the wild green heart of Burgundy.
