About Parc naturel régional du Queyras

Tucked against the Italian border in the southern Alps, the Parc naturel régional du Queyras protects one of the highest, sunniest and best-preserved mountain valleys in France. Ringed by 3,000-metre peaks and reached through a narrow gorge, it is a world of larch forests, flower-filled meadows and traditional wood-and-stone villages, crowned by Saint-Véran, often called the highest inhabited village in Europe. Its exceptional dry, clear climate makes it a paradise for walkers, cross-country skiers and stargazers, while the fortress of Château-Queyras guards the valley below. Authentic, remote and blessed with an astonishing quality of light, the Queyras is a stronghold of alpine tradition and a haven for lovers of quiet, high, unspoiled mountains.
