About Parc naturel régional du Vercors

A vast fortress of limestone rising between Grenoble and the Drôme, the Parc naturel régional du Vercors is a world apart — a high, forested plateau ringed by sheer cliffs and slashed by spectacular gorges such as the Bourne and the Grands Goulets. Beneath the surface lie some of the finest caves in France, including Choranche; above, the high plateaus form a wild nature reserve where reintroduced ibex roam among chamois and marmots. The massif was a stronghold of the Resistance in 1944, remembered in moving memorials. Walkers, cavers, climbers and cross-country skiers all find their paradise here. Dramatic, green and often mist-wrapped, the Vercors is one of the wildest and most beautiful of the French Pre-Alps.
