About Plage du Sillon
Curving for nearly three kilometres beneath the ramparts of Saint-Malo, the Plage du Sillon is the great beach of the old corsair city, a broad sweep of golden sand famous for its lines of weathered wooden posts — the brise-lames, set in the sand to break the force of the waves. For here the sea is spectacular: Saint-Malo has some of the highest tides in Europe, and during winter storms at high water, huge waves explode over the sea wall in a thrilling display that draws crowds. On calmer days the beach is a magnificent place to swim, walk and gaze out to the offshore forts and islands. Dramatic, historic and swept by the great tides, the Plage du Sillon is the wild seafront of Saint-Malo.
