At the very tip of Finistère — of "Land's End" — the Pointe du Raz is one of the most emblematic and spectacular headlands in France, a jagged prow of rock jutting into a treacherous sea where fierce currents boil around the offshore reefs and the lonely Île de Sein. Waves crash against its granite spurs beneath a statue of Our Lady of the Shipwrecked, and on stormy days the sheer wild power of the Atlantic is unforgettable. A classified Grand Site de France, it is reached on foot from a discreet visitor centre across heath ablaze with sea-pinks in spring.
