About Puy de Côme
One of the largest volcanoes in the Chaîne des Puys, the Puy de Côme rises in a graceful wooded cone crowned by a striking double crater, a nested pair of hollows that betray its explosive birth a few thousand years ago. Cloaked in beech and pine, it is a favourite walk within the UNESCO-listed volcanic range: a shaded path spirals up its slopes to the twin summit craters, from where the view sweeps across the neighbouring puys and the plains of the Limagne. Its old lava flows can still be traced through the forest below. Green, shapely and geologically fascinating, the Puy de Côme is one of the most rewarding of the many volcanic summits that make the Auvergne landscape so extraordinary.
