About Arbois

In the heart of the Jura vineyards, Arbois is the capital of the region's celebrated wines, a charming little town strung along the river Cuisance beneath the vine-clad slopes. It was here that Louis Pasteur spent his childhood and conducted his pioneering experiments on fermentation, and his family home and vineyard can still be visited. Arbois is famous above all for its distinctive wines — the amber, nutty vin jaune, aged for years under a veil of yeast, and the rare vin de paille — celebrated each autumn in a lively wine festival. Around its old church with a fine bell tower, the town gathers cellars, bistros and stone houses, wrapped in the beautiful landscapes of reculées and waterfalls. Historic, gastronomic and beautifully sited, Arbois is the wine capital of the Jura and a delight for lovers of good living.
