About Belvès Village

Rising above the valley of the Nauze in the Périgord Noir, Belvès is a beautiful perched medieval town, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, famous for the seven bell towers that pierce its skyline. Its narrow streets of golden stone wind past a fortified church, a covered market hall on old pillars, noble houses and hidden squares, all breathing the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Beneath the town lie remarkable troglodyte dwellings, carved into the rock of the ramparts and inhabited from the 13th to the 18th century, which can be visited. From its terraces, wide views sweep over the wooded Dordogne countryside. Handsome, historic and superbly sited, Belvès is a delightful stop amid the châteaux, villages and gastronomy of the Périgord, rich in medieval character and southern charm.
