About Bonifacio

At the southern tip of Corsica, facing Sardinia across a narrow strait, Bonifacio is one of the most dramatically sited towns in the Mediterranean, its ancient citadel perched on dazzling white limestone cliffs that plunge sheer into the turquoise sea. The old walled town, a maze of tall stone houses and narrow lanes, clings to the very edge of the precipice above a beautiful fjord-like harbour, reached by steep ramparts and the famous cliff-cut staircase said to have been carved in a single night. From the citadel, breathtaking views sweep over the cliffs, the sea and the boats far below. Steeped in maritime history and Genoese heritage, spectacularly perched between rock and water, Bonifacio is one of the great sights of Corsica — an unforgettable town of white stone, blue sea and dizzying beauty.
