About Cancale

On the edge of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel in Brittany, Cancale is a pretty fishing port world-famous as the oyster capital of France, its harbour and quays lined with restaurants and stalls selling the celebrated Cancale oysters, best enjoyed fresh at the water's edge looking out over the vast oyster beds revealed by the great tides. The town rises from its lively port, La Houle, to an upper town with fine views, while nearby the wild headland of the Pointe du Grouin offers dramatic cliff walks and panoramas over the bay toward Mont-Saint-Michel. With its maritime bustle, seafood, coastal beauty and the ever-present rhythm of the tides, Cancale is a delight for lovers of the sea and good food. Salty, scenic and delicious, it is one of the most appealing ports of the Breton coast.
