About Chanaz

On the edge of the Canal de Savières, which links the great Lac du Bourget to the river Rhône, Chanaz is a charming Savoyard village so pretty and laced with water that it is affectionately called the "little Venice of Savoie". Its old stone houses line the canal, where boats and pleasure craft glide by, and a lovely stone bridge, waterside cafés and an old working oil mill add to its idyllic charm. From the village, boat trips set out across the tranquil canal to the Lac du Bourget, France's largest natural lake, amid beautiful mountain scenery. Craft workshops, a Roman-era chapel and flower-decked lanes complete the picture. Picturesque, peaceful and beautifully sited between canal, lake and mountains, wrapped in the gentle landscapes of Savoie, Chanaz is a delightful waterside village and a lovely spot for a relaxed day out.
