About Collioure

On the Vermilion Coast where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean near the Spanish border, Collioure is a dazzling Catalan port town, its brightly coloured houses gathered around a harbour where a distinctive bell tower rises straight from the water and a royal castle guards the bay. It was here, in the early 1900s, that Matisse and Derain painted their revolutionary canvases and gave birth to Fauvism, drawn by the town's extraordinary light and colour; today reproductions mark the very spots where they set their easels. Around the port, terraced vineyards produce Banyuls and Collioure wines, and the town is famous for its anchovies. With its castle, bright façades, pebble beaches and artistic soul, Collioure is one of the most beautiful and inspiring towns of the Occitanie coast, a radiant meeting of Catalan culture, art and sea.
