About Concarneau
On the south coast of Brittany, Concarneau is a lively fishing port famous above all for its Ville Close, a walled medieval town built on a small island in the middle of the harbour, encircled by ramparts and reached by a footbridge. Within the walls, a maze of cobbled lanes, ramparts walks and old granite houses now filled with shops, crêperies and galleries makes for an enchanting stroll, with views over the fishing fleet and the bay. Still one of France's major fishing ports, especially for tuna, Concarneau blends working maritime life with tourist charm, and each summer stages its colourful Fête des Filets Bleus. Historic, atmospheric and beautifully sited between ramparts and sea, wrapped in the sailing waters of southern Finistère, Concarneau is one of the most appealing harbour towns of the Breton coast.
