About Dinan

High above the river Rance in Brittany, Dinan is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the region, a magnificent ensemble of half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and nearly three kilometres of ramparts crowning the hill. Its steep, picturesque Rue du Jerzual descends between overhanging timbered façades to a charming little port on the river below, once busy with trade. Above, the old town gathers around a castle with a great keep, ancient churches and the lovely arcaded houses of the Place des Merciers, alive with craft workshops, galleries and cafés. Wrapped in ramparts and history, romantic and beautifully kept, Dinan combines a superb setting above the Rance with one of the finest medieval townscapes in Brittany. Handsome, atmospheric and full of character, it is an unmissable jewel of the Breton interior.
